Mira Mesa Epicentre Groundbreaking:

Officials and community members broke ground on the project on Wednesday, January 29, 2025. Read the County News Center article and watch the recap video.

Background:

Mira Mesa Epicentre is a new project to revitalize an existing facility in the community of Mira Mesa. Goals are to reactivate an important public space, offer innovative youth programming, enhance recreation and entertainment opportunities, improve access to public services, and increase public safety in the community.

In 2021, County Board of Supervisors identified City of San Diego-owned Mira Mesa Epicentre as a high-priority capital project and community investment opportunity to advance equity, inclusion, youth development, and arts and educational opportunities. The Board directed the County of San Diego Department of Parks and Recreation to negotiate a lease agreement with the City to revitalize the facility, manage operations and run programs. The lease was finalized in early 2025.

The County has hosted public meetings, launched surveys and has held conversations with residents, businesses and other stakeholders about priorities for the facility. This feedback has helped to shape design concepts and schematic designs. Construction began in early 2025.
