Mt. Woodson Gateway County Preserve

Coming in Winter 2022

The County of San Diego Department of Parks and Recreation acquired the 84-acre Mt. Woodson Gateway property in April 2019. The land sits to the west of SR-67 in Ramona.

Seventy-five acres were added to the County’s Multiple Species Conservation Program to protect native chamise chaparral, oak woodland, coastal sage scrub habitats and a variety of dependent wildlife.

The remaining land was joined to another County-owned parcel to build a designated parking area for visitors to Mt. Woodson, with room for up to 200 vehicles. Expected completion is Fall 2022

Included in the $3.5M budget is land acquisition, environmental analysis, design and construction. Ongoing maintenance may be funded by $3 day-use fees – something that will be confirmed as the project nears completion and an operational plan has been established.

This project is a big win for the County, the Cities of Poway and San Diego who manage trails on Mt. Woodson, and for residents who deserve safe access to trails and open space recreation.
