Lakeside Linkage Preserve is full of coastal sage scrub. This vegetation community supports several sensitive species including coastal California Gnatcatcher, coastal cactus wren, and orange-throated whiptail. The preserve holds special meaning to the citizens of Lakeside for the possibilities its open space and vistas provide.

Don’t miss the Whitaker House, a well-known Lakeside landmark within the preserve. At the end of a steep 1.3-mile trail and at the top of the hill, you’ll find a moss-faced stone building. The Whitaker house is a significant structure due to its architectural integrity and style. After snapping some pictures head back down for a round-trip hike of 2.6 miles.
