Ildica County Park is a new neighborhood recreation space in Spring Valley – spanning 0.55 acres with picnic and play areas, exercise equipment, ADA-accessible parking and strolling paths, lighting, and a community garden with compost bin. Twenty-two native trees were planted on site to provide shade, support wildlife and help grow San Diego’s tree canopy – and drought-tolerant landscaping and irrigation support County-wide sustainability measures. The outcome is an attractive community draw for nearby residents and park-goers of all ages, interests and abilities and is a good example of the County's efforts to expand parkspace in urban areas, fostering improved quality of life.
Parking is limited; ridesharing and walking are encouraged.
Garden plots at the Ildica County Park Community Garden include (15) large 4' x 8' and (5) small 2’ x 4’ garden boxes, providing community members and gardeners alike the opportunity to lease a space they need to grow their own produce. The cost is $35 per year for a large garden plot and $20 per year for a small garden plot. Gardeners are required to visit weekly and garden every season. Call (619) 479-1832 for information and to request a garden plot, should all the plots at the garden be leased, staff have a wait list available. Please be prepared to share your first and last name, your phone number, your email address and a general overview of your gardening experience. You can also send a message to a Spring Valley Community Center Staff.
