About the Park:

Tucked just one block west of the Fallbrook Community Center in the heart of Fallbrook, this 6.8-acre park offers gorgeous views of the rolling hills of the San Luis Rey River Valley.

The park offers small and large picnic areas that are ideal for any size gathering, whether you’re planning a cozy lunch for two or a family fun day. Enjoy views of Katuktu (Morro Hill) while relaxing on Adirondack chairs in the native garden area. A paved, ADA-accessible loop trail circles the large multipurpose field, making it a great spot for an easy stroll or a walk with friends.

The new all-wheel skatepark is a highly anticipated feature that includes a signature avocado-shaped bowl (a nod to Fallbrook’s avocado-farming roots), plus quarter pipes, rails, kickers, a volcano, wedge ramps, and stairs, designed to challenge first-time skaters to seasoned pros.

Little adventurers will love the accessible play areas designed for ages 2–5 and 5–12, packed with play structures to keep them climbing, sliding, and having fun.

On the lower, south side of the park, the 18,000-square-foot off-leash dog park is divided into two areas for small and large dogs.

The site also offers parking for 68 vehicles and has an ADA-accessible restroom. There are several water fountains with bottle fillers located throughout the park.

This project received four grants that contributed over $3M to the project budget.

THE STORY OF KATUKTU (MORRO HILL)

Video: The Luiseño share “The Story of Katuktu.”

The community of Fallbrook is the ancestral territory of the Payómkawichum people, or the Luiseño Indians, as they were referred to by the Spaniards that colonized California. To the west of the park, in the distance is a small dome-shaped hill. Today it is called Morro Hill. In Spanish, morro means “nose” or “small point.” The Luiseño people know this hill as Katuktu, and their culture continues to thrive today.

To the east of the park, where the sun rises, the long mountain formation in the distance is the Palomar Mountain range. In Spanish, palomar refers to the many doves and pigeons that make the mountain their home. Palomar Mountain is home to several public parks, including Palomar Mountain County Park, Palomar Mountain State Park and the Cleveland National Forest’s Palomar Ranger District.

A watershed is an area of land where all the rain and runoff drain into the same body of water. Village View County Park drains to the San Luis Rey River. The headwaters of the river begin on the east side of Palomar Mountain near Lake Henshaw and flow west to the Pacific Ocean.

To the northwest of the park, toward Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, the Santa Margarita Mountains rise prominently, with Margarita Peak as their highest summit. At 3,193 feet above sea level, it is the tallest point in San Diego County west of Interstate 15.

Village View County Park offers many vistas, each with a story to tell.
