Help Us Make Youth Sports Safer

In July of 2025, the County reached out to youth sports organizations to gather valuable input on Automated External Defibrillator (AED) practices and future needs. Input from these organizations was used to help us understand how we can better support the safety and well-being of young athletes.

THANK YOU TO THE LOCAL YOUTH SPORTS ORGANIZATIONS FOR PROVIDING FEEDBACK!

A New State Law for Safer Sports

The San Diego County Board of Supervisors approved exploring opportunities to expand access to AEDs for youth sports organizations. This follows California Assembly Bill 1467, which requires all youth sports programs to have an AED onsite during official practices and games by January 1, 2027. The law also requires coaches to be certified in CPR and AED operation and to have a written cardiac emergency response plan.

Why Your Feedback Matters

We asked local youth sports organizations to complete a short survey about their current AED practices to help us:

  • Understand what AED equipment and training organizations already had.
  • Identify challenges youth sports programs face in meeting the new requirements.
  • Plan how the County can best support you with resources, training, and funding.

Together, we can make a big difference in keeping our young athletes safe and healthy.

Thank you for your time and commitment to youth sports safety!
