Pedestrian access is available from sunrise to sunset, daily. No public vehicle access or restroom availability on December 25. The staging area at Black Mountain Road is open to both vehicle and equestrian parking.
Rich in history, the Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve features an adobe ranch house built in 1823 by the recipient of the first Mexican land grant in San Diego County. The house was enlarged in 1862, and in 2006 it became a National Historic and Archaeological District. Spanning 3,700 acres, the preserve offers hiking, biking and equestrian trails.
