How's your Hawktober?

Throughout the month of October, we celebrate our local birds of prey, their amazing adaptations and the important roles they play in the wild via 17 live shows at parks across San Diego.

Meet hawks, falcons, owls and other bird ambassadors in this special, ranger-led series. See what our resident raptors look like up close while learning about where they live, what they eat, how they hunt and what survival mechanisms they’ve developed over time to help them thrive.

Our campaign namesake birds – hawks – are seen widely throughout San Diego County. Make a date to meet one, two or all three of our VIPs (Very Special Predators): Tango, a Swainson’s Hawk, Bellatrix, a Red-tailed Hawk, and Penelope, a Ferruginous Hawk. Mutaah, a Great Horned Owl, is also on the tour schedule, weighing approximately 32.1 ounces, bearing a wingspan of 39.8 inches and excellent nighttime vision.

These and other birds will be featured on different dates at different locations, so we encourage you to visit more than one. Events are free and open to attendees of all ages and abilities. Registration is not required, but we recommend arriving early to get a good spot!

As an added perk, all attendees can pick up a pack of limited-edition Hawktober trading cards with profile pictures, statistics and facts about your favorite feathered friends.
