Green Friday: 2022 Lineup

Join us Friday, Nov. 25 for a region-wide celebration of outdoor spaces on a holiday we call Green Friday. Morning, noon and night, our staff have planned 10 special events at parks across San Diego, where you can learn about, enjoy and give back to nature.

Park fees are waived for the day at all County-managed park facilities.

Seven Story Trails – sponsored by the San Diego County Library – are being installed at parks featuring nature-themed stories for kids in several languages. From sunrise to sunset, read pages of books as you travel popular, family friendly trails at El Monte and Louis A. Stelzer County Parks in Lakeside, Guajome Regional Park in Oceanside, Lincoln Acres County Park in National City, Lake Morena County Park in Campo, Potrero County Park in Potrero, and San Dieguito County Park in Del Mar.

Beginning at 9 a.m., rangers at San Elijo Lagoon Ecological Reserve are teaming up with Nature Collective and Latino Outdoors to host a self-guided 3-mile loop hike. The loop will take you over the deeper and wider channels made possible by the San Elijo Lagoon Restoration Project via the new I-5 suspension bridge. Be sure to stop at our Check-In Stations before beginning your hike for fun activities and your celebratory Loop Challenge sticker.

At 9:30 a.m., Woodhaven County Park in El Cajon will be ready for its community beauty treatment... Volunteers are needed to assist with things like trash pick-up, the cleaning of common areas, weed pulling and planting new vegetation.

Two hands-on activities are scheduled for 10 a.m.; head south for an educational History and Dam Tour at Otay Lakes County Park in Chula Vista – or east for an Oak Education and Planting Demonstration at Ramona Grasslands County Preserve in Ramona. Ranger leading these activities will talk about the land, local wildlife, our cultural past and the work we do to support our future.

At 7 p.m., we’re hosting a Star Party  at Sycamore Canyon/Goodan Ranch County Preserve. Local astronomers will be on site with their giant telescopes to point out some far-out, stellar phenomenon!

We’ve also planned four tree-planting activities where volunteers will be able to place seedlings harvested from local acorns into the ground. This is a great experience for families and small groups who can enjoy revisiting the growing tree for years to come. All supplies are provided for these events, which are slated for 9 a.m. at Sycamore Canyon/Goodan Ranch and Lamar County Park in Spring Valley, 10 a.m. Live Oak County Park in Fallbrook, and 1 p.m. at Dos Picos County Park in Ramona. Call the parks for additional information.
