On Friday, Nov. 24 – typically known as Black Friday – County Parks encouraged San Diegans to swap shopping plans for outdoor experiences. We celebrate the 'upside of outside' with family-friendly activities in parks and preserves across the region, for a holiday we’ve coined Green Friday!
Join us every year for volunteer events, hikes, meet-and-greets with animal ambassadors and more. We’ even waive day-use fees at all of our parks and preserves so everyone can enjoy 100+ open spaces across more than 50,000 acres of land… for free!
DPR works year-round seeking innovative ways to inspire park patrons, and to foster a new generation of park ambassadors. Green Friday is one such pursuit; with 350 miles of trails where people can hike, bike, ride a horse, site-see and picnic, we offer a ready (and economical) escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life.
Interested in sponsorship? Be a part of the festivities by supporting Green Friday with a tax-deductible donation. Proceeds support programming on Nov. 24 along with future events and maintenance projects that keep our parks open and beautiful for all to enjoy. View the most recent Sponsor Sheet for a list of opportunities.
Also in 2017, thanks to a partnership with REI San Diego and Lyft, Lyft offered FREE rides (up to $10) to three of the parks on the list of activities, including San Dieguito County Park, San Elijo Lagoon Nature Center and Lindo Lake County Park. Details.
